So, you have decided to become
a Volunteer Firefighter!


Here is one question to consider:

It is the middle of January and 5 degrees below zero with a bad snow storm and -20 degree wind-chill.  You are in a nice warm bed at 2:30am next to your significant other sound asleep.  You have to get up for work in 4 hours.  You then hear the sound of a pager going off and it is for a house that is fully involved with fire.  You can stay in bed all nice and warm with your significant other or you can get up, get dressed and drive to the firehouse, put on 100 pounds of extra weight, and go fight the fire becoming a human popsicle.

To join South Schenectady Fire Department, Please adhere to the following:

- All applicants must meet in person with the Chief of the department and be interviewed.  You may contact the Chief's Office at 518-355-7720 ext. 224 for an appointment.

-All applicants are subject to a NYS Arson and Driver's License check prior to being voted on by the membership.

-All applicants should reside within the Rotterdam Fire District 6 boundaries.

****At this time NO applications can be accepted from outside the district****

Download a copy of our application, fill it out, and bring it to the firehouse on any Wednesday evening between the hours of 7:00pm and 9:00pm.
